Sliding-folding gear may be used without a bottom guide, in some cases..

If considering a Coburn Foldaside 100 top hanging sliding folding gear in a situation where a bottom guide rail cannot be used, as the underlying floor is concrete and the 15mm groove in to which to set the bottom guide could not be provided. The manufacturer’s guidelines are that “The floor guide and channel must be used on doors over 15kg or 450mm wide.”  The reason is that the floor guide takes most of the lateral load off the hinges, and hinges supplied with the kits are only lightweight.  It might be an idea to look at the more heavy duty Saheco SF-A84D sliding-folding system, because we supply that with Royde & Tucker H102 or H104 Hi Load hinges.  Alternatively Hi-load hinges can be purchased separately, which would mean you would almost certainly be successful without the bottom guide.

Q: Can the ‘Foldaside 100’ track length could be extended to 2440mm?

March 8, 2011 by · Comments Off on Q: Can the ‘Foldaside 100’ track length could be extended to 2440mm?

A:  Looking at the Foldaside 100 – 4 door 2400mm kit, the top and bottom tracks can be alternatively purchased by the metre (i.e. in 3m sections, which you could cut down).  But if your opening is 2.44m, then it may be possible to get away with 2.4m tracks by positioning the 4cm “gap” at the side where the doors are attached to the wall.  This should not affect the operation of the doors.

I am interested in the Twin 60 door runners I need to run 3 doors on 2m of sliding door track. Your info states maximum door height is 2 metres. My door height would be 2.110 metres. Can you please tell me if they will work at that height, if not is there an alternative?

The 2m height is only a guideline, and 2.1m should be perfectly okay as long as the doors are rigid.  The most critical consideration is the weight of the doors – as long as they are not more than 25kg each, and between 16 – 40mm thickness, then they will be fine.

I need a three panel folding/sliding door, or four panel if three is not possible. The opening is 1.0 mtr wide x 1.85 mtr high. Have you runners that will do this? I can make the doors myself.

As long as your individual door leaves will weigh no more than 7kg each, then I would recommend the Henderson Bi Fold B15 – 4 door kit, which you can cut down to fit the opening.  You can read about it and see the price at the link.  If your doors will be heavier, then you’ll need to look at the Foldaside 100 (2 or 4 door kits only).

Recommend a wardrobe sliding door kit for my doors?

November 22, 2010 by · Comments Off on Recommend a wardrobe sliding door kit for my doors?

Q: (from Dennis) I have two doors measuring 6 foot x 21 inches 3/4 inch thick which I want to slide past each other like a in wardrobe on double tracks top and bottom.  They are 15kgs each and 16mm thick.  Would your kit be suitable?
A: Yes, the Coburn Jason 4J can take doors up to 25kg each and the minimum door thickness is 12mm.  The bottom tracks can be surface mounted (or recessed) and the wheels are surface mounted to the back face of the doors.  The top tracks can be morticed in or surface mounted (see the technical pdf at this link).

I’m looking for wardrobe sliding door gear with a length of 2900mm to take three doors (MDF) running on two tracks. One door at rear with two at front. Any ideas please?

As long as your individual doors are less than 25kg each in weight, then you can choose between the Coburn Jason bottom running wardrobe gear (you’d need to order 2 kits to get the length) or the Coburn Twin 60 top hung wardrobe gear (again the longest kit is 2.4m, so you’d need 2 kits again).  Please note that joining kits together is not really recommended as there are no jointing kit available on these systems, and it would be up to the fitter’s skill to get a good smooth join.

I am looking for a sliding folding concertina door sytem to fold 8 x narrow doors , 4 each way. Doors are 2200 mm x 235 mm x 35 mm in size and weigh approx. 20 kg each. I will need a system which has both top and bottom tracks – 2100 mm in length.

The suitable gear for the sliding folding arrangement you describe for your doors would be the Coburn Foldaside 100, (see components listed on our web page at the link shown) a set to do all 8 doors on a 2.1m top & bottom track will have to be bought in component form, with two 4 door kits on one track set.

I have built 2 wardrobes, originally I was intending to hang 2 x 444mm doors on each carcass using standard sprung hinges. Unfortunately this would leave no space between the wardrobe and the bed, therefore I am now looking at a sliding door system. I need a system which will fulfill my dimensions and provide tracks for both top and bottom, along with all other hardware in terms of rollers etc. Please could you advise on a suitable system which would provide everything I need?

As long as your doors are no more than 25kg each and 12mm minimum thickness, then we would recommend the Jason sliding door gear: 4J – 2 door kit 1200mm (47″) which you can cut down to size.  This will give you bottom running track with the wheels and a top guide track to allow the 2 doors to run past each other.

Q: I have a 60cm width cupboard door in bedroom I’d like to make into a sliding door to save space. Please could you advise me if any of your sliding gear is suitable for this job?

May 10, 2010 by · Comments Off on Q: I have a 60cm width cupboard door in bedroom I’d like to make into a sliding door to save space. Please could you advise me if any of your sliding gear is suitable for this job?

A: If the door is less than 9 kgs in weight you could use a Coburn Hush kit, or if the doors are up to 25 kgs you might look at a Coburn Jason kit.  The other alternative for doors weighing up to 14 kgs in total is sliding-folding doors, like the Henderson Bi-Fold.
